I saw Sons and
Daughters at Cambridge when they supported fellow Scots band
Idlewild. It wasn't my favourite evening by any means but I was
struck by the raw energy of Sons and Daughters and probably
enjoyed them more than the main band. Energy is a word high on the
agenda with this album - but is there anything to drag it out of
the mundane.
Sadly the answer is
probably no. I can't help feel that Sons and Daughters are
something of an anachronism - a post punk band that have come
along 20 years too late long after music has - for good or bad -
moved on.
What we have is a
pseudo Siouxsie and the Banshees sound. Sadly there is little
variation or of interest as one song seems to move into the next
to give a rather monotonous feel. I am sure they are capable of
much more but there just isn't enough originality in the 40 odd
minutes of this album
