Metis - Rushin *** Rushin/Strictly for the Love/Why Do Me Wrong Being a child of the 60s most hip hop has left me cold, so it was a pleasant surprise when I received this three track single to review. Simply put Metis is a very interesting artist. To start with he's far from your usual gangsta rap genre. Metis is a poet, hip hopper and performance artist. This single comes from his upcoming debut album The Path. So what else is unusual about Metis well: He wrote Rushin on the London Underground on his way to work By day has degrees in philosophy and economics. In 2008 he appeared at Glastonbury. So what of the single - well there's a significant difference to it. Song-a-long harmonies precede Metis' fast , skilful and soft delivery. The theme over the three tracks is simply the rat race, the futility of hurtling around like a headless chicken, the importance of enjoying the finer things. "Strictly for the Love" tells us about Metis without being navel gazing. Metis is a commentator on modern life, seen through the eyes of mundane things. His full album will be very interesting. Meanwhile you can catch Metis at the Dance4Life charity event at London's Ministry of Sound on November 29th, 2008 and at the Helvetia Hotel in Zurich Switzerland on December 13th. Rushin is released on 8th December, 2008.
