Published Work

As a working journalist for most of my life, I am used to having work published. I still get a thrill out of seeing my copy in print, however.

Most of what I have written over the years is long lost in the mist of time, with much of it becoming fish and chip paper (such is the fate of a writer!).

On this section of my site I will try to reproduce pieces and tell you where they have appeared. Please return as once again this area will take some time to populate.

When Two Worlds Collide

Here and Now rock music columns from the Eastern Evening News

When tidying out the loft I came across a number of rock music columns from the early 1980s and thought I would copy out a number of articles and album reviews from these. I wrote the Here and Now column for the Norwich based Eastern Evening News with a number of people including Steve Hardy, John Miles and Mark Houlday and I believe I was the longest contributor, taking over from Colin Bevan and continuing until the columns demise. In those days the Evening News was a broadsheet newspaper and Here and Now initially appeared every Monday with a full page. This was then extended to Mondays and Thursdays until it was felt the column had run its course. I still think it is a shame that today's Norwich Evening News doesn't have a similar column for rock music.

Here and Now mainly covered the local music scene but also LP reviews and gigs by national bands. So as a piece of self indulgence but also, hopefully, as something of an historic record of the music scene in Norwich I have decided to run pieces by date order and also give a description of articles on the pages. I hope you find something of interest. Please go to the Here and Now index page by clicking here.
