Photographic Gallery - British Icons

Just what is the United Kingdom? Well obviously it is a group of related countries such as England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales - but it is much more than that. It is an island of great diversity. To me there are numerous images that conjure up our country and on these pages I will be including photographs that have a special social or artistic importance. Many will be everyday articles that are often taken for granted. Some should be cherished as part of our heritage before they disappear. It is not intended for this section to be composed of attractive landscapes but more to try and sum up some of the character of Great Britain through the eyes of everyday items - some good, some bad. So below is the start of my collection. Click on the photographs to see larger images.

From left to right - Wheelie bins for rubbish collection, a village letterbox and a public telephone kiosk likely to become a thing of the past with the mass use of mobile phones.
