Music Index

Music plays a major part in my life and below are links to various sites on this subject. Just click on the titles

David Bowie

A site dedicated to my views on the music of English rock artist David Bowie. Includes biography, album reviews and general pieces. Bowie had, and still has a tremendous influence on British rock music. One of the finest song-writers and artists ever.

Harry Chapin

The late, great Harry Chapin has been a great influence on my life and beliefs. This section is written unashamedly as a fan of the man's life and music. It includes biographies, essays, album reviews and explains just what this man and his songs mean to me.

Barclay James Harvest

My favourite group of all time. I became a fan of Barclay James Harvest whilst at college in the early 1970s and, more than anyone else, they were responsible for fostering my love of rock music. Includes album reviews, articles and reminiscences about the band

Divine Comedy

I love the quirky nature of the music of this Irish group. Their clever lyrics, blend with memorable tunes and prove that songwriting is still an art when done properly. Includes album reviews and other bits and pieces.

Jimmy Webb

It is absolutely criminal that few people today seem to have heard of Jimmy Webb - one of the greatest living songwriters. Many of his songs, however, are extremely well known and have been recorded by the likes of Frank Sinatra and Barbara Streisand - to name but two

John Stewart

Another little known but supremely gifted artist who has been a long-term favourite of mine with his down to earth stories of rural America. Few will have heard of John Stewart but everyone has heard Daydream Believer which he wrote and recorded long before the Monkees made it a hit.

The Carpenters

The tragic Karen Carpenter had the voice of an angel and for easy listening there is no-one to compare with the Carpenters. Despite being seemingly anonymous, Richard Carpenter was the driving force in this brother and sister duo.

Tom Waits

I accept that Tom Waits is not everyone's cup of tea. His voice is certainly an acquired taste. That doesn't detract from the fact that this man has written some of the strongest and most powerful songs in the history of rock music

Richard Harris

Not many people remember the Late Irish actor Richard Harris as a singer, but I always had a soft spot for his slightly off key tenor voice and he was the best interpreter of Jim Webb songs, There is a great kitsch quality about songs such as MacArthur Park.

Other Favourites

Other musical favourites from all genres from Neil Young to the Moody Blues, the Strawbs to Paul Williams. Come with me on a musical journey through some of my favourite artists and music.

Review Section

Album reviews, concert reviews and various other rock irrelevancies and other bits of paraphernalia.

Music Articles

This section includes published and non-published articles on music, along with my favourite 100 tracks of all time, my favourite albums and my favourite classical works.

I POD Lists

Yes I finally got hip with an MP3 player, but not an IPOD. I bought a Creative Zen which is pretty much the same thing. To celebrate I have put together some themed playlists. Read about them here.
