Letheringsett is set in the Glaven Valley and dates back to the Domesday Book and beyond. At the time of the Domesday book the village boasted a watermill and a church.

The present St Andrew's Church dates from about 1300. The best known family in the village have been the Cozens Hardys who have lived in the area since the 1700s.

A saw mill was built in 1857 and the bridge over the River Glaven came in 1818 and is said to be the flattest in Norfolk as it rises only 16 inches. Being close to the coast, Letheringsett is known to have been the haunt of smugglers between 1787 and 1882 with whisky and gin often brought in from Weybourne and Salthouse.
